Jason Cundy hits back at Aston Villa fan after swipe at Rangers live on talkSPORT
TalkSPORT hosts Jason Cundy and Perry Groves have hit back at an Aston Villa fan who talked down Rangers on the radio.
Steven Gerrard has been strongly linked with the new vacancy at Villa Park with the Daily Mail reporting that the Premier League strugglers are set to make an approach for the Gers manager.
However, one Villa fan is unimpressed by the managers linked with the club since Dean Smtih was sacked on Sunday and especially isn’t pleased with Gerrard’s name cropping up.

“I don’t think the ones we’ve been linked with are any good. Steven Gerrard, okay he’s done it at Rangers, but to be honest, anybody could do it with Rangers,” said Lee the Aston Villa fan, as shown on talkSPORT’s Twitter account.
Cundy replied by saying: “Well, they haven’t done for the last 10 years.”
Groves then interjected to say: “No, exactly. To be fair, he’s turned it around at Rangers. They were a long way away from Celtic before he got there.”
Cundy then added: “It’s a bit harsh that, Lee.”
Lee the Villa then said that it was “a bit harsh on Dean Smith” that he was sacked.
Ridiculous attitude from south of the border
We’re used to this.
Whenever there’s a chance for an English football fan to talk down the Scottish game, they do it.
And when they do it, they make a complete idiot of themselves as Lee the Villa fan has done here.
Firstly, who was Smith before he arrived at Villa? Someone who did a decent job with Walsall and Brentford in the EFL – that’s it.
Gerrard is a former Premier League star who’s won the Champions League and in his first spell as a manager, won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers and twice taken them to the last-16 of the Europa League.
Is that something that Lee thinks ‘anyone can do’?
It’s absolute jibberish and it’s what we’ve come to expect from those in England who clearly have no idea of what happens up here because they’re so obsessed with their perfect Premier League.
Gerrard would be a good hire for Villa, if we’re honest. Obviously we’d hate for him to go but if he does, he’ll do well.
But if the majority of their fanbase has the attitude that Lee does, we doubt that Gerrard’s arrival would be welcomed with open arms.
