Gabby Agbonlahor confident of Steven Gerrard leaving Rangers for Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor and Ally McCoist were on opposing sides on talkSPORT on Wednesday to discuss Steven Gerrard’s potential Rangers exit.
The Gers boss has been heavily linked with the vacant Aston Villa job and Agbonlahor, the Villain’s record Premier League goalscorer, is confident that a deal will get done.
Agbonlahor said: “I’m hearing reports that it’s close to being done as well. For Steven Gerrard, it’s the perfect club.

“I’m sorry Ally but I think you’re going to lose him mate.”
McCoist replied: “You were doing fine until you laughed at the end there!
“The longer it goes on my concern is growing.”
Host Laura Woods then asked: “What’s a bigger club, Villa or Rangers?”
Agbonlahor: “Listen, I want to go to an Old Firm game, I’ll get chased out of Ibrox!”
He added: “It’s over the line [Gerrard to Villa] isn’t it!”

Inevitable?
The whispers have been getting louder and the reports of Gerrard’s potential exit are rising.
There’s still a chance that he stays, but what surely cannot be denied now is that he has an interest in taking the Villa job.
If he didn’t, then why would he not come out now to address the issue? That would put an end to all talk and put supporters’ minds at ease.
As it is, Gerrard looks increasingly likely to make the move back to England and take over at the Premier League club.
The one saving grace is that the Gers should have a decent amount of time, relatively speaking, to source a replacement.
This pursuit has come at the start of the international break and thus there are at least 10 days until Rangers next play.
It’s not ideal, but it could be worse.
Rangers will recover from this.
