Charlie Adam shares what he knows about Steven Gerrard video clip amid Rangers boss to Aston Villa speculation

Charlie Adam has cast doubt on a video of Steven Gerrard supposedly arriving in London ahead of leaving Rangers to become Aston Villa’s new manager.

TalkSPORT has reported that Gerrard has headed down to the UK capital to enter talks with Villa’s CEO Christian Purslow with the West Midlands club confident of hiring the Gers boss by the end of the week.

After seeing that video clip, BBC Sportsound pundit Adam suggested that we can’t say for sure whether Gerrard is actually in London right now for talks and added that the Ibrox chief wasn’t with his agent in the footage.

“Is this the video? To be fair about the video, it’s not his agent, it’s one of his friends, so I can back him up on that,” Adam told PLZ Soccer, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I also heard the story there’s reasons why he’s in London, as well, not just because of the Aston Villa thing.

“We’re putting two and two together at the moment and speculating for everything.

“The rumours are circling very quickly and it’s very hard to quash them, unless the club or Steven himself come out and say something.

“It’s going to add arms and legs to everything until we know what’s going to happen.

“What’s going on and what everybody’s hearing is it looks strongly like he’s going to Aston Villa, which will be a huge blow for Rangers.”

Rangers

He’s off, anyway

Regardless of whether there’s anything in that video clip or not, it sure seems as though Gerrard is off to Villa and his days in charge of Rangers are numbered.

According to The Athletic, Aston Villa have made a breakthrough in their talks to hire Gerrard in the last 24 hours.

It is understood that he could be confirmed as Villa’s new manager by the weekend and compensation won’t be an issue for the billionaire-owned Premier League club.

Rangers will have their work cut out in replacing Gerrard.

Ross Wilson and co are bound to be drawing up lists already but the fact of the matter is, it’s going to be one tough task for someone to fill Stevie G’s boots.

While some fans might be mad at him after what he said about being happy at Ibrox amid speculation linking him to Newcastle, we simply cannot ignore the job he’s done here.

Gerrard is the man who brought the glory days back to Ibrox, the man who ended Celtic’s 10-in-a-row, the man who led us to an unbeaten league season.

We won’t forget that. Thank you, Gerrard.

In other Rangers news, a move to Ibrox has been mooted for this ex-Gers star.
