Bruce Archer wants Giovanni van Bronckhorst or Paulo Fonseca to be next Rangers manager
Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Paulo Fonseca have been mooted as two managers to replace Steven Gerrard at Rangers by Bruce Archer.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, The Sun journalist said that he’s “go for” one of those two out-of-work managers amid strong speculation linking Steven Gerrard with the vacancy at Aston Villa.
Villa expect Gerrard to be officially made their replacement for Dean Smith by the end of this week with the Gers manager in London for talks with their CEO Christian Purslow [talkSPORT].
Van Bronckhorst in
Rangers have failed to consider certain things with their past appointments of managers and one of them is that they need a manager who understands and knows the club.
Gerrard had didn’t spend any time of Ibrox before his arrival but the expectation and the culture at Rangers is similar to that of what he was used to at Liverpool.
Prior to him, Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha didn’t have a clue so when the next manager is brought in, it’s something that needs to play a key role in the decision-making process.

Van Bronckhorst knows Rangers after spending 1998 to 2001 there as a player. He also knows what it’s like to be at massive clubs having also played for Barcelona and Arsenal.
The 46-year-old also played for Feyenoord twice and managed them from 2015 to 2019, winning them their first Eredivisie title in 18 years.
Feyenoord are probably a similar club to Rangers in many respects and the fact that van Bronckhorst is out of work after a short spell with Guangzhou City in China.
We’d very much love to see him come in.
He knows Rangers, he knows the expectation, he’s not a rookie manager, he’s well-travelled and he’s proven he can win league titles.
What’s not to love?
