Shaun Custis thinks Steven Gerrard should leave Rangers for Aston Villa

Shaun Custis believes that Steven Gerrard should leave Rangers for a move to Aston Villa.

The Gers boss has emerged as a key contender for the Villa role after the club sacked Dean Smith, and Custis can see him swapping Ibrox for Villa Park [Daily Record].

The Sun reporter and regular talkSPORT guest believes that he has done all he can with the Gers, and it could be time for him to move on.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Villa is a big club.

“They aspire to mix it at the top end; they want to, which is why they are linked with someone like Steven Gerrard.

“It could be a great stepping stone for Gerrard to go to Liverpool.

“If he did go to Villa, I don’t think anyone would be surprised if he then went from Villa to Liverpool.

“What more is there to do at Rangers? Not much more.

“Villa would be a great challenge.”

Custis clearly thinks it is time for Gerrard to leave.

Now, when Newcastle United were taken over, Gerrard was heavily linked with that job, but he stayed with the Gers [The Times].

Now that Villa have sacked Smith, he has been heavily linked again, but why would he leave what he has?

The fans absolutely love him, and he has built a superb squad at Ibrox that went the whole season unbeaten last year.

He has yet to win a domestic trophy apart from the league, and he could build a dynasty with the Gers if he stays.

So there is still plenty to do.

Now, Villa are a big club with big ambitions, so you can see why it might tempt him, but surely, he wouldn’t sour his relationship with the fans by leaving to join Villa.

Of course, we will have to see what happens, but we feel as if Gerrard will remain with the Gers until at least the end of this season.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are expecting to hear more on Gerrard’s future in the next 48 hours.
