Barry Ferguson discusses Steven Gerrard’s future at Rangers
Barry Ferguson believes that Steven Gerrard won’t quit Rangers for Aston Villa yet.
The 41-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Villa Park, but the former Gers man can’t see Gerrard going anywhere just yet [BBC].
However, he does believe that the time will come when Gerrard decides to move on from Ibrox and have a crack in the Premier League.

He said [Daily Mail]: “My honest opinion: I think he himself will think, to go down there (to England), he still needs to win more trophies.
“At some stage, he is going to leave, but I don’t think it’s now with the two jobs that have come up over the last few weeks, Newcastle and Aston Villa. I don’t think now is the right time, and I believe Steven Gerrard thinks that as well.
“All Rangers fans have got to be realistic and know it will happen sometime. But at this moment in time, I don’t think it will.”
Ferguson makes a valid point.
Considering his connections to the Gers, we could guess that Ferguson has a pretty good idea of what is going on.
You would hope that Gerrard will decide to reject Villa’s advances, should they make a move for him to replace Dean Smith.
If he stays, he can still go on and win numerous trophies and secure another SPFL title, which would be a big moment.
You would think that if he stays and keeps winning, then his stock will continue to rise, meaning that bigger jobs could become available.

Gerrard seems set to take over from Jurgen Klopp when the German’s contract expires in 2024.
However, if he moves to Villa and fails, could that ruin his chances of getting the job at Anfield?
These are all things that Gerrard needs to weigh up, and Ferguson seems pretty confident that he will stay at Ibrox, which is good to see.
