Rangers generated only £8m profit from player trades compared to Celtic’s £112m

Since 2013, Rangers have only generated a profit of £8 million from player trades, according to reports shared by Swiss Ramble.

In the same period, their arch rivals Celtic have enjoyed a healthy nine-figure sum, making £112 million.

For four years between 2013 and 2017, Rangers failed to make any profits, in fact, making losses on two occasions.

Need to do better

Rangers have comfortably overtaken Celtic on the pitch, but off it there still is plenty of work to do.

Financial management has not been the strong suit of the Ibrox hierarchy and that is something that has caused problems in the past.

They’ve not made good amounts of profits on player trades and player sales which is possibly why the team is not good enough to compete in the Europa League.

Steven Gerrard’s managerial nous coupled with individual brilliance has led to Rangers achieving success in the short term.

However, for them to return to the elite status, they’ve got to do much better off the pitch.

Whether that means selling a couple of assets and building from scratch, it’s something that needs to be done sooner rather than later instead of papering over the cracks.

Alfredo Morelos is one such asset who comes to mind and it does not seem like he’s as happy as he was a few months ago.

Rather than having a disgruntled player on the books, it makes sense to sell him while interest in his services is high.
