Stan Collymore: Steven Gerrard from Rangers to Aston Villa ‘will have legs’

Stan Collymore has mooted the possibility of Steven Gerrard quitting Rangers to take charge at Aston Villa.

Dean Smith was sacked by the out-of-form Premier League club on Sunday, leading to the Telegraph reporting that Gers boss Gerrard is high on their shortlist of fill the new vacancy.

And, due to his relationship with Villa’s current CEO and ex-Liverpool director Christian Purslow, Collymore feels Gerrard is potentially a shoo-in for the job at Villa Park.

Rangers

“Gerrard. Will have legs as Purslow is a big fan. Has personality to manage Villa, used to big expectation at Liverpool/Rangers,” said Collymore via his personal Twitter account on Sunday after Smith’s sacking.

Adding two and two together

Gerrard’s been linked with Everton and Newcastle, he’s doing well at Rangers and he has links with someone who’s already at Aston Villa.

Linking him with the new vacancy at Villa Park seems a bit easy, doesn’t it?

We’re not worried about Gerrard going any time soon.

Rangers are showing signs that they can win the league title for a second season in a row while we may well be playing in knock-out football in Europe after Christmas with the way things are going there.

Of course, domestic competitions are also up for grabs so we could still see a really big season for the Gers.

Gerrard won’t want to leave halfway through that, absolutely not.

And will Rangers even let him too? Villa will have to be granted permission for talks first and they’ll also have to match what the Light Blues want in terms of compensation.

Gerrard’s contract has another two and a half years left on it so it won’t be easy to pry him away from Ibrox.

Keep your mitts off him, Villa.
