Ross County Super Fans preview the Rangers game

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Super Fans on upcoming Rangers games. Ahead of Rangers’ game against Ross County in the SPFL, we caught up with two Ross County Super Fans @staggiesview and @robbinsliam9.

Rangers host Ross County in the SPFL as they look to stay at the top of the table, and ahead of the game, we spoke with two Ross County Super Fans.

@staggiesview and @robbinsliam9 provided such good answers that we decided to include them both in this piece.

The game on Sunday is big for both sides as the Staggies look to build on their first league win of the season against Dundee FC.

Malky Mackay’s men blew Dundee away in a 5-0 win away from home, and they should approach this game with some confidence.

What have you made of Rangers start to the season?

SV: Rangers haven’t hit the levels of last season yet, which was to be expected, and it’s slightly worrying with Celtic’s resurgence under Postecoglou.

LR: Rangers are where everyone expected them to be at the top of the table, probably not as good a start as they would’ve wanted and looked shaky at times but can’t argue with being top.

What have you made of your start to the season?

SV: County’s start to the season has been extremely worrying despite a 5-0 win over Dundee last time out. The sheer number of teams (all but one) they failed to beat in the first round of fixtures was alarming, and it’s crucial that this emphatic win at Dens isn’t just a flash in the pan.

LR: Overall, we’ve had a disappointing start to the season, defensive mistakes have cost us in a lot of games, playing some of the best attacking football I’ve seen for a long time in Dingwall but a mix of not taking chances and just being unable to defend balls in the box has left us bottom.

Who should Rangers look out for?

SV: Rangers should fear Joseph Hungbo and Regan Charles-Cook. The Staggies wingers have consistently been the biggest threat in their arsenal, with tricks and pace aplenty to get past their men and steadily improving end product which has seen them put the crucial postage stamp on crosses and shots that was previously missing.

LR: Regan Charles-Cook has really started to come alive on the left this season and started to chip in with some goals, on the right Joseph Hungbo has also started to show his quality and scored his first goal in our last game against Dundee with an amazing free kick, Harry Clarke is also one to look out for, on loan from Arsenal as a centre back he’s been playing right-back, has two goals in last two games and a couple of assists and always looking to take on a man and I’d say he is probably a level or two above every other County player at the moment.

Who on the Rangers team worries you?

SV: Fashion Sakala worries me the most out of everyone in this Rangers side. Despite a slow start, his hat-trick last time out shows he’s finding his feet. Even if you point to the fact it was against lower ability opposition, in Motherwell, County were beaten by the Steelmen in their last encounter, showing that Sakala could once again be rubbing his hands together.

LR: Joe Aribo, I think is my biggest worry, he always seems to score or make something happen against us, and the space he usually likes to operate in or run into is probably where we’re weakest, and I think he’ll probably be able to take advantage again.

Who will win the title?

SV: I still expect Rangers to win the league, but they need to stay focused.

LR: My money is currently on Rangers to win the league; I think it’ll be slightly closer this year, but if Rangers can keep hold of their core players in January, it should be enough to win the title.

Score prediction?

SV: 3-1 Rangers.

LR: I think Rangers will probably win 3-1.

Tough challenge.

If you look at the league table and the current form, you would think this should be a very easy game for the Gers.

However, County will be riding a crest of a wave after their huge win last time out, and they will look to exploit any tiredness from the Bears after Thursday.

Clearly, Rangers also need to watch out for Charles-Cook and Hungbo.

Charles-Cook has scored four goals and provided one assist, while Hungbo has scored one goal and provided an assist, which is a decent record for a struggling side.

So, this won’t be an easy match for the Gers, and they will need to be at a good level to secure another win and keep their SPFL challenge on track.

Of course, they did thrash Motherwell last weekend and can take a lot of positives from that display into this match.

Either way, it should be a fascinating encounter, and 3-1 seems like a fair enough prediction from our Super Fans.
