Rangers won’t be forced into a fire sale in January

Barry Ferguson doesn’t believe that Rangers will be forced into a fire sale of their best players in January.

Speaking to the Daily Record in his regular column, the former Gers man revealed that he thinks the board will back Steven Gerrard in January and not sell the club’s best players.

Ferguson’s article follows the club announcing huge losses in their latest financial results, but the pundit doesn’t seem overly worried about the current situation.

He said: “Fans don’t want to read about losing players. But this is a business, and when financial results hit the public domain, that’s when reality hits.

“There won’t be any fire sale, that’s for sure.

“In fact, I’m confident they will still back Steven Gerrard when it comes to the next window.”

A bold claim from Ferguson.

Judging by the way Ferguson speaks here, it seems as if he knows that the Bears will cling on to most of their players, despite this worrying financial situation.

He also seems to hint that the board will actually invest even more money and help further improve Gerrard’s squad.

Therefore, if Ferguson is right, the Gers might just be fine and might even end January in a stronger position when most will be expecting at least one or two players to leave.

This is a bold claim from the former Bears man, and many Gers fans will be hoping that he is right and the board actually improves the squad rather than weakens it.

The latest finances released by the Bears didn’t make for good reading, but Ferguson seems very relaxed about the whole situation, so it will be interesting to see if his confidence is misplaced or if he is spot on.
