Scott Arfield comments on his Rangers future

Scott Arfield has revealed he’s not received any contract extension offer to extend his Rangers stay beyond the end of the season.

The Canadian midfielder is out of contract this summer and he will be free to speak with other clubs over a move in the coming weeks.

Arfield has only managed 13 appearances for the Gers this season, including just six appearances in the Scottish Premiership. He impressed during the weekend’s 6-1 victory over Motherwell and made the most of a rare start he got.

Rangers

The 33-year-old has suggested that he hasn’t been in talks with the club over a new deal at the minute. However, he seems to be in no rush to sort it out immediately and is happy to see a wait till the end.

Arfield said, as quoted by Evening Times: “No there hasn’t been [any talks over a new deal] at the minute. It is up in May so we will see what happens with that.

“Fully focused about getting myself back in the team and getting the opportunity and we will see what happens with that.

Major claim

Arfield is a quality player and he did well in previous seasons under Steven Gerrard.

His impressive performance last week could prompt Gerrard into including him in the first team for the Europa League clash with Brondby on Thursday.

Rangers

Rangers picked up their first win of the competition last month when they won 2-0 against Brondby at Ibrox. Another victory would be massive for them as they look to qualify for the next round.

It has been a frustrating campaign for him so far, but he needs to make the best use of the opportunities he is getting.

Having said that, it looks unlikely at this stage that Rangers will offer him a new deal. Unlike the case of Connor Goldson, where Rangers have tried to persuade him behind the scenes, there has not been any movement from the club in the case of Arfield so far.

The Gers probably are happy to let him go on free (considering his age) at the end of the season, as they have enough depth in that department.

In other Rangers news, Michael Owen has predicted the score for Thursday night’s clash with Brondby.
