Rangers keen on Chippenham Town striker Oluwasegun Lawal
Rangers are interested in signing Chippenham Town striker Oluwasegun Lawal during the January transfer window, according to Allnigeriasoccer.
The 19-year-old is also wanted in the Premier League, with Liverpool, Newcastle United, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Watford all keeping tabs on him ahead of winter.
Lawal caught the eyes of Rangers and co after impressing for Chippenham Town academy team this season, and he made his first-team debut against Braintree Town on Saturday due to his form.
One for the future
The non-league sensation scored once in five appearances for the Bluebirds Under 23’s side before making his senior debut, and while the return is not particularly impressive, the 6ft teenager is doing something well to have attracted the likes of the Bears.
Rangers are continuously recruiting for the future, and Lawal would be linking up with their B team should a move work out.
The former Drogheda United forward can represent Nigeria and the Republic of Ireland internationally, and he will be linking up with Super Eagles trio Calvin Bassey, Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo if he joins the Ibrox outfit.
Lawal can play as an attacking midfielder, on both wings given his ability to use both feet and as a striker, and that versatility would come in handy as he looks to establish himself as a professional going forward.
Given the quality of suitors Rangers are up against for his signature, landing him could prove difficult.
However, a move to Glasgow could do his career a world of good as there is a realistic pathway to senior football compared to the fierce competition available in the Premier League.
