Tam McManus: Rangers stuck the knife into Celtic with Motherwell win

Rangers destroyed Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday, strolling to a 6-1 win that saw them establish a four-point lead at the top of the table.

Celtic were held to a goalless draw by Livingston on Saturday, missing the chance to temporarily top the Premiership log as a result, and Tam McManus believes that inspired Steven Gerrard’s men.

The defending champions were on top of their game against ‘Well, coming from a goal down to secure a huge victory.

McManus was impressed, insisting Rangers have sent a message to Celtic and the rest of the division with their performance.

The pundit said on PLZ Soccer (as shown on their official Twitter account): “Sunday is the best I’ve seen them all season. I’ve no doubt that the result a day before has given them a massive boost.

“They have seen Celtic drop points, and it gave them opportunity to go top. Rangers have stuck the knife in and went, “yeah, there you go.”

“They have sent a message out to Celtic that “we’re still top and we’re still the team to beat.

“Emphatically 6-1. You see the goal difference, and they opened up a four-point gap again. I thought Rangers were really, really good on Sunday.”

Incredible

Celtic fans would have been glad to see the Steelmen go ahead on Sunday, but the Bears had other ideas.

While the hosts having a player sent off definitely played a role in their heavy loss, the Light Blues were already leading comfortably prior to that moment, only scoring thrice afterwards.

It was a commanding attacking display from Rangers, and even McManus could not help but give credit where it is due.

The Ibrox outfit have struggled for consistency this term, but they were on another level at the weekend.

Rangers

They are capable of replicating that performance every week, and Gerrard will hope to see more of that from them going forward.

On their day, the Bears are the best team in the land, and not even the Hoops come close at the moment.

The Gers remain favourite to clinch the title despite their slender lead, but the question remains whether they can put some of their struggles at both ends of the pitch behind them.
