Kris Commons thinks Celtic are back in the title race due to ‘Shaky’ Rangers

Kris Commons believes that Celtic are back in the title race because Rangers haven’t been that good so far.

The Gers lead the Bhoys by four points at the top of the table, but Commons believes that his old side have a chance of beating the Bears to the SPFL title.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail [via the Daily Record], the BBC pundit aimed several digs at the Gers despite them winning 6-1 against Motherwell on Sunday.

Rangers

He said: “Rangers are still keeping things ticking over and are top of the table. Yesterday’s 6-1 thrashing of Motherwell was their most fluent performance of the season.

“But defensively, they look shaky. They can’t keep giving away cheap goals and giving opponents a head start; otherwise, they will drop points.

“Home draws with Aberdeen, Hearts and Motherwell over the past six weeks have shown that Rangers are not at the same level they were last season.

“As good as they were at Fir Park yesterday, they are still throwing in the odd wobbly performance and result to keep things interesting at the top of the table.”

Interesting claims from Commons.

It seems odd for Commons to come out with this the day after the Gers turned in their best performance of the season to thrash Motherwell.

Yes, they did concede first, but after that, the response was sublime, and Fashion Sakala ended the game with a hat-trick to announce his arrival in Glasgow.

It was an important result as the Bears now have a decent lead over Celtic.

The Bhoys have been much better in recent weeks, but they could only manage a 0-0 draw with Livingston on Saturday, so they still aren’t that good.

Ultimately, the Gers do have a few defensive problems at the moment, which need resolving, but the timing of this article is pretty odd.

If Celtic had won and Rangers had lost, then it would have made more sense, but it feels like an attempt to drag the Bears down after they smashed Motherwell and reasserted their authority at the top of the table.

In other Rangers news, Tam McManus was blown away by one Gers star against Motherwell.
