Steven Gerrard elects to remain at Rangers amid Newcastle interest

Steven Gerrard is understood to have elected to stay put at Rangers despite the interest from Newcastle to make him their next manager, according to The Times.

The Premier League club recently saw the Saudi-owned Public Investment Fund complete a takeover which was over a year in the making.

Having sacked the incumbent Steve Bruce, they’re now looking for a successor and Gerrard’s name was thought to be on the list.

However, he seems to have distanced himself from the job, meaning they will have to look elsewhere.

He stays

Until the next Newcastle manager isn’t announced, Gerrard’s name will continue to be thrown into the mix.

The former Liverpool captain is a Premier League legend and has started his managerial career on the right note.

He’s helped Rangers rise from the ashes to once again make them a force in Scottish football and will be looking to retain the title this season.

While it might be too early in his career, he’s already proven that he’s ready for a big challenge and the Newcastle job poses exactly that.

However, it seems like he is not interested in what’s going on at St. James’ Park and his focus appears to lie on his Rangers side.

This will be good news for Gers fans as money talks in today’s day and age, and given Newcastle’s billionaire owners, managers could be tempted to leave their projects and take up the opportunity.
