David Norris not surprised Newcastle want Rangers boss Gerrard
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is being linked with Premier League moneybags Newcastle United following the sacking of Steve Bruce.
The Magpies have new owners following their £300million takeover by the Saudis, and they are ready to splash the cash going forward as they now boast of the wealthiest owners on the planet.
Gerrard is one of the names that has been linked with the Newcastle job even prior to Bruce’s departure, and David Norris insists he is not surprised hearing about it given the impressive job he has done since his arrival at Ibrox.
The former Leeds United midfielder told This Is Futbol: “For anyone looking for an up-and-coming manager and they’ve got the money and ambition.
“I’m not surprised to hear that he’s been linked with Newcastle.”
Expected
Gerrard was linked with the Everton job in the summer despite being a Liverpool legend, so it is not surprising if Newcastle indeed want him.
He led Rangers to their first title in a decade last season, and he has massively boosted his CV as a result.
The 41-year-old dreams of managing his old club someday, and while that is not on the cards at the moment, the chance to work in the top-flight very soon could be available at St. James’ Park.
However, the Rangers boss is not expected to walk away from his current job during the campaign, and that is putting the minds of the decision-makers at Ibrox at rest.
Their Newcastle counterparts do not appear to be in a rush to make a permanent appointment, though, and should they be keen to wait until the end of the campaign before doing that, it is safe to say the Gerrard rumours will not be going away anytime soon.
