Ally McCoist stunned by Rangers defending this week v Aberdeen

Ally McCoist has been left stunned by some of the defending on show from Rangers this season in the Scottish Premiership.

The Bears were impenetrable last season, but that has gone out of the window this time – conceding two against Aberdeen last time out.

McCoist is worried about the defensive form, especially at Ibrox after literally shaking his head at the goals conceded against Aberdeen.

Speaking on BT Sports’ Scottish Football Extra, McCoist singled out snippets he had seen that left him pulling out his hair.

“Particularly defensively, from a side who looked excellent defensively, particularly at home domestically,” he said.

“They’re losing goals that you’re actually shaking your head at. The first goal, shocking really – it’s one of those goals you always run the risk of if you try to play like that, but it’s a really poor goal.”

Shocking.

Playing out from the back is something that Steven Gerrard insists his side does in the Scottish Premiership.

But, the capitulation after losing possession in deep areas is something that he simply won’t tolerate, and that first goal against Aberdeen was embarrassing and simply all over the place.

Something isn’t quite right at Ibrox at this moment in time, and if it continues, we could be waving goodbye to defending our title.

Gerrard will be working every single day with his defence, hoping they can refind the form that kickstarted this wonderful period in Glasgow.

McCoist is right, it was simply shocking and hopefully, that can act as a lesson and be something that we never have to watch again this season.
