Motherwell Super Fan previews Rangers game on Sunday
This is part of a regular series from our panel of Super Fans on upcoming Rangers games. Ahead of Rangers’ game against Motherwell in the SPFL, we caught up with Motherwell Super Fan @MFCPodcast86.
Rangers travel to Motherwell on Sunday, looking to move on from their disappointing draw with Aberdeen on Wednesday.
The Gers only managed a 1-1 draw with the Steelmen at Ibrox earlier in the season, and they will be hoping to go one better this time around.
Ahead of the game, we caught up with Motherwell Super Fan @MFCPodcast86 again, and he gave us the lowdown on the game at Fir Park.
Before we started, though, he paid a wonderful tribute to Walter Smith.
I appreciate the chance to speak to you again, and I would like to take the chance to pay my respects to Walter Smith if that is ok? A true legend of the Scottish game. We know rivalries can get nasty, but when someone is so well respected that (quite often petty) rivalries are put to one side, I think it demonstrates the magnitude of that person – Walter’s achievements in the game commanded respect, may he rest in peace.
Since the first meeting at Ibrox between these two sides, do you think Rangers have improved?
It’s strange as it has only been six weeks since we last played and during that time there’s been an international break too. I think away from home; Rangers continue to get the job done, though, at home, they do appear to be struggling for victories. I’m genuinely not sure if much has changed since our last meeting in terms of performance levels.
What did you think of the match itself, and were you happy with a point?
I was happy with a point. I think you’ve got to be when going to Ibrox. Rangers had a lot of the ball and a lot of chances, but as the game goes on at 1-0, you’ve always got a chance of pinching a point, and that’s what we did that day – it was a good result.
What sort of game are you expecting on Sunday?
I hope to see Motherwell have a go on Sunday; we are the home team, and given our results in October, we really could be doing with a positive result. Rangers have quality across the pitch, though if we can avoid losing an early goal, then I think we’ve got a chance of taking something from the game.
Is your title prediction still the same?
I still think the title race is going to be very tight. Celtic have picked up a fair bit recently, and Rangers have obviously dropped points in three of their last four home matches. It’ll be interesting to see how it goes, but if I’m being honest, my thoughts are only on how Motherwell push on after the first round of fixtures.
I’ve made this hard for myself after getting it right last time out. I’ll go for a draw again, though, Motherwell 2-2 Rangers.
Great answers from our Motherwell Super Fan.
We want to thank @MFCPodcast86 for coming back on and providing us with some detailed and insightful answers.
It seems as if Motherwell don’t actually fear the Gers, and given the way they have been playing this season, that is probably fair enough.
Steven Gerrard’s side still sit at the top of the SPFL, but the gap is very narrow now, and they need a win at Fir Park on Sunday to try and get gain back some momentum.
The Steelmen, though, sit in sixth position, and you would think with a home crowd backing them, they will fancy their chances of getting something.
Certainly, it seems as if this season, the Bears are not as imperious as in the last campaign, and other clubs perhaps don’t fear them, which could become a problem.
Either way, this should be a fascinating game on Sunday, and we look forward to seeing how Gerrard’s side respond after Wednesday.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are set to be without a Gerrard stalwart at Fir Park.
