Borna Barisic ruled out of Rangers clash v Motherwell

Borna Barisic has been ruled out of playing for Rangers in their trip to Motherwell on Sunday, Steven Gerrard has confirmed.

Barisic, 28, was absent for the 2-2 draw with Aberdeen on Wednesday with Calvin Bassey starting in his place at left-back.

According to the Glasgow Evening Times, the 21-year-old will start again at Fir Park for the Halloween showdown after Gerrard confirmed Barisic is out.

“Borna has a small issue at the moment and I think he will be out for the weekend, also,” said the manager, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times.

“Hopefully we will have him around for the Brondby game.”

Good

Barisic has been one of many underperformers for Rangers this season with the Croatia international really struggling at left-back.

He’s played 12 times so far this season in all competitions and while he’s contributed two assists to the attack, the ex-Osijek left-back has been a source of frustration for many.

Barisic’s assist record, at least his expected assists stats, should be way higher because his delivery in most matches has been woeful.

The Croatian has been sloppy in possession and also too easy for attackers to deal with for most of the campaign.

Bassey, on the other hand, looks more solid defensively than Barisic.

The former Leicester left-back has played 10 times in total this season and has also contributed with two assists.

In Bassey’s five league starts this term, the Gers are unbeaten and have a record of four wins and one draw, which was against Aberdeen on Wednesday.

We’re happy Bassey is starting and that’s how it should be when Barisic is fit due to his poor form.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart’s tweet suggests he may have been dropped by BBC Scotland.
