Walter Smith minute silence at Rangers interrupted by idiotic Aberdeen fans
A small number of Aberdeen fans interrupted the minute’s silence for Walter Smith as Rangers drew 2-2 with the Dons at Ibrox on Wednesday night.
BBC Sportsound’s live coverage [07:45pm] of the tribute to the late Gers legend was silent for the most part but towards the end, isolated chants of ‘Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Aberdeen’ could be heard emanating from the away support.
After the minute silence ended, BBC Scotland’s Sportsound host Richard Gordon said: “No surprise to hear that explosion of noise at the end. Hugely poignant.

“Just a massive picture of Walter Smith on the screen there.
“One or two idiots among the Aberdeen support, sadly, who interrupted the minute’s silence.
“That apart, just a hugely emotional time for everyone inside the stadium.
“Our thoughts and best wishes go to his wife Ethel, to [his sons] Stephen and Neil and his grandchildren, to all of his family. He will never be forgotten, that’s for sure.”

There’s always one or two
We’re not going to sit here and take a massive swipe at Aberdeen fans because 99 per cent of them observed the minute’s silence with great respect.
However, it was very clearly that there were one or two of them who thought it was their time to shine, their time to be a disrespectful cretin.
If they are identified, Aberdeen should ban them from attending their matches for life because to do something so disrespectful deserves punishment.
Away from that, Ibrox fell silent to remember one of the greatest managers in not only Rangers history but the history of Scottish football.
Every match on Wednesday night had a minute’s silence prior to kick-off and the reaction to Smith’s passing has been absolutely overwhelming from every corner of Scottish football.
Thank you to Aberdeen for their class and respect on Wednesday night and thank you to the majority of your travelling fans.
In other Rangers news, the BBC have mooted the possibility of this senior man exiting Ibrox.
