Richard Gordon stunned as Aberdeen take lead v Rangers at Ibrox

Richard Gordon couldn’t believe what he’d witnessed when Aberdeen took the lead in their 2-2 draw with Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

Just eight minutes into the Premiership showdown, Christian Ramirez opened the scoring for the Dons after a defensive mix-up by the hosts.

After pundit Richard Foster said the cause of the goal was the Gers playing themselves into trouble, Gordon said on BBC Sportsound: “Wow, completely unexpected, you would have to say.

Rangers

“Christian Ramirez, who has been on a very good run of late, has just scored for the third successive Premiership match.

“He is onto nine goals for the season and there’s been a bit of criticism of him of late but he’s the only player for Aberdeen who scores goals.

“It seems a bit strange that he would be criticised.”

Rangers

Woeful defending

Rangers conceded just 13 league goals last season.

We’re only 11 matches into this Premiership season and Steven Gerrard’s defence has already shipped 10 goals.

Allan McGregor has been a miss for the last two games but you have to look at the players ahead of Jon McLaughlin too because it would be harsh to blame goals conceded to St Mirren and Aberdeen entirely on him.

Our midfield and back-four are drastically underperforming and not offering the protection they were last season.

It remains to be seen whether Ryan Jack can help improve things once he returns from injury but he’s been out for so long and missed large spells of last season too when we conceded so few.

Gerrard’s men are still struggling to click.

We thought the win over Brondby in the Europa League last week would be a catalyst for our season but clearly, that hasn’t been the case with stuttering displays at St Mirren at the weekend and against Aberdeen.

In other Rangers news, the BBC have mooted the possibility of this senior man exiting Ibrox.
