Kenny Miller: Rangers should hold out for top dollar for Morelos

Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos has scored 100 goals for the Premiership giants in 199 appearances, and he could be closer to an Ibrox exit.

The Colombian international, 25, was linked with Porto several times in the summer and has been regularly linked with a lot of teams in recent transfer windows.

However, while Rangers have held on to one of their most prized assets, Kenny Miller reckons the club could be looking to finally cash in once they feel the time is right.

Rangers

The former Bears striker told The Scottish Sun: “He brings so much to the line-up. But every player has their price and I don’t think he’s ever denied the fact he sees himself moving on at some stage.

“The question is just when Rangers want to cash in, because there’s no doubt they have had opportunities to do that down the years and decided against it.

“The numbers would have to be right, though. He’s been linked with moves every transfer window, and potentially I think Rangers could still land big money for him yet.

“Maybe that’s one of the reasons he’s not been sold, because the numbers haven’t been big enough. If you’re asking me if they could still get upwards of £10m then I think they could. That’s definitely possible if Fredo can get his game back to the level it’s been at before.

“As someone who has run European defence ragged in the last few years, I’d definitely bracket him in the £10m-£15m range.

“It all comes back to his goal ratio, and he’s a striker who is better than one goal in every two games. That has a value in football.”

Definitely

£15million is a fair fee for Morelos, although Rangers could want more for him given his impressive goalscoring record.

Celtic sold Edouard to Crystal Palace for £14million in the summer [BBC], while Dembele fetched them £20million in 2018 when he moved to Lyon [BBC].

Arsenal signed Tierney for £25million in 2019 [BBC], and the Light Blues will be keen to get something similar for the Colombian if they can.

Suitors are definitely keeping tabs on him, but none tabled a bid last summer, and Morelos needs to do more this term.

Rangers

He should be aiming to play a significant role for his country during next summer’s World Cup after watching the Copa America on the bench, but he has to bang in plenty of goals for his club ahead of the tournament that to happen.

The Rangers ace has proven himself in the Premiership and was on fire in the Europa League last term, but impressing at the World Cup will surely see his value skyrocket, and that could be the club’s only chance of getting more than £20million for his signature.
