Darren Gough: Alfredo Morelos could leave Rangers for Newcastle United

Adrian Durham has paid a glowing tribute to Alfredo Morelos but Darren Gough has tipped the Rangers centre-forward to leave for Newcastle United.

Morelos, 25, scored his 100th Rangers goal during Sunday’s 2-1 win over St Mirren, leading talkSPORT host Durham to shower the Colombian with praise on his ‘Drive’ show [25/10/21].

“I’ll say this about Morelos, I’ve been a big fan of him since he arrived,” he said. “Best striker the Scottish Premiership has seen since Henrik Larsson.

Gough replied: “I think he will come to the Premier League, do you?”

Durham: “Yeah, I’m surprised it hasn’t happened already but yeah, I think so.”

Gough: “Newcastle? That’s the obvious choice!”

Durham: “They’ve got the money.

“He always looks like he’s in a bad mood, Morelos, but I quite like that through the 90 minutes. He just scores goals, doesn’t he?”

Inevitable Ibrox exit in 2022?

After a long wait, Morelos has finally reached the 100-goal milestone, and that is surely a big weight off his shoulders.

That won’t be enough for him, though – Morelos will want to inspire the Gers to another league title after last season’s heroics.

He will also be eyeing a longer run in the Europa League this season, but if he achieves both, will he finally up and leave during the summer?

It is surely a genuine possibility, as time is starting to tick on his prime years.

More and more clubs nowadays prefer to sign players when they are young, thus ensuring they can extract as much out of them as possible, or sell them on for decent sums.

If he has ambitions of making his mark in England, then 2022 may be the time Morelos calls it quits at Ibrox.

Newcastle certainly seems like a realistic destination given their newfound wealth.
