Andy Walker reacts to ‘Embarrassing’ James Tavernier moment in Rangers v St Mirren

James Tavernier suffered an “embarrassing” moment when he slipped over while taking a corner for Rangers on Sunday, according to Andy Walker.

Tavernier, 29, enjoyed a lot of joy with his crosses in the 2-1 win over St Mirren in Paisley but late in the second half, he failed to get the ball into the box at a corner when he slipped on the dodgy surface.

Ian Crocker joked that no one will want to step foot on the dodgy pitch at St Mirren after the game before Walker reacted to the moment.

“No one will want to be walking over the pitch after the game. Everyone’s falling over,” said Crocker on Sky Sports Football on Sunday [01:43pm].

“[It was an] embarrassing one for Tavernier that. Kicked it onto his own foot.”

Awful pitch

St Mirren’s pitch on Sunday was atrocious.

It rained a lot before the game and also got a good watering from the groundsmen, leading to a lot of passes going astray in the opening half.

We saw a couple of overhit passes from Alfredo Morelos and Steven Davis as the Gers pressed forward after Connor Ronan’s wondergoal. Maybe the surface was partially to blame.

St Mirren also had quite a serious injury towards the end of the game with Jamie McGrath being stretchered off the field of play.

There’s not really anything that can be done about the rain but it happens to a lot of pitches in Scotland.

Plastic pitches are one option but in our opinion, they’re not ideal and can also cause increased injury issues and other problems.

It would be good if the SPFL give out some kind of funding for clubs to improve their drainage.
