Kris Boyd delivers strong verdict on Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos

Kris Boyd has suggested that Steven Gerrard is gradually losing his patience with Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian has been a prolific goalscorer for Rangers since he joined the club in 2017, and he is on the verge of scoring 100 goals for the Gers.

He will become the 10th fastest player in Rangers’ history to reach 100 goals, and it’s an achievement that must be lauded.

At the same time, Boyd has suggested that Morelos is struggling to score at the moment, having managed just five in 16 games.

Boyd reckons that Morelos will never be considered among the pantheons of great strikers at Rangers, because he hasn’t won enough trophies with the club.

“Here’s the rub. Morelos is not scoring at the moment and he’s not playing well,” wrote Boyd for the Scottish Sun.

“He’s going to have to buck up his ideas if he wants that cherished 100th goal any time soon.

“For my money, Steven Gerrard is on the verge of losing his patience with him.

“He needs to get back to doing what got him to 99 goals in the first place — delivering the kind of performances that made him a major contributor when Rangers secured title No 55.

“But above all that, he needs to deliver more trophies in his remaining time in Glasgow.”

Curious case

Morelos is going through a rough patch at the moment and he is struggling to rediscover the form that saw him score plenty of goals in the previous campaigns.

There’s no doubt that when Morelos plays, Rangers are a different beast. He has the ability to bring the best in others. He is physically very strong and can create space for attacking midfielders to exploit.

At the same time, he is struggling and Gerrard isn’t particularly happy with his output. Moreover, his recent comments about achieving everything that he had set out to do at Rangers has come out at the wrong time.

Gerrard told Sky Sports this week that Morelos will make his own decision about his future at Ibrox, while he also hinted that the club could be close to reaching an agreement with him.

He has hailed the 25-year-old striker as “fantastic”, and believes that goals will come from him. Morelos has two years remaining on his current Rangers deal.
