Chris Sutton unimpressed by Morelos attitude in Rangers 2-0 win v Brondby

Rangers finally picked up their first win of the Europa League group stage campaign against Brondby on Thursday night, winning 2-0 at Ibrox.

Leon Balogun and Kemar Roofe got the goals in the first half, but it was a frustrating night for Alfredo Morelos, with Steven Gerrard hooking him off with 20 minutes to play.

Chris Sutton was far from impressed as the Colombian international striker struggled once again in front of goal, blasting him while on punditry role last night.

Rangers

As quoted by Football.Scotland, he told BT Sport: “He (Gerrard) publicly called him out a little bit. He’s such a frustration Morelos because he’s such an important player.

“He’s scored more European goals than any other Rangers player than history, even Ally McCoist who has bagged a few. He’s such an important player for Rangers, but he’s not firing.

“He looks like he’s not conditioned himself probably, but if he clicks Rangers are going to be in a much better place because he’s such a talent.”

“I think it’s attitude with him. He needs to knuckle down, get himself in better condition, and he’ll be a happier player and Steven Gerrard will be happier.

“He has so many good assets and goalscoring is one of them but he needs to get himself in the proper condition.”

Disappointing

Morelos has scored just five goals in 16 appearances across all competitions for the Bears so far in 2021-22, and that is far from impressive.

Being the focal point of the team, Rangers are struggling to wrap up victories and reach the heights of last season due to his sharp dip in form.

Sutton is anti-Rangers as they come, but he is spot-on in his assessment of the striker.

Rangers

Gerrard definitely wants more from him and has publicly thrown down the gauntlet.

Unfortunately, he did not get the response he would have been hoping for, and could now be forced to take action.

While Morelos remains a starter and key player for the Light Blues, he could start spending some time on the bench if he does not rediscover his goalscoring form as soon as possible.

He is holding the team back, and taking him out of their firing line could help inspire him as he is clearly lacking needed motivation at the moment.

In other Rangers news, Bears fans will be buzzing with major Jim White-talkSPORT update on Thursday.
