Ally McCoist raves about Tavernier after Brondby fans incident in Rangers win

Ally McCoist has warned Brondby that there may be repercussions for the behaviour of their fans in the 2-0 defeat to Rangers on Thursday night.

In the first half, James Tavernier was about to take a corner-kick when the Gers right-back seemingly had objects thrown at him from the section that housed the away fans at Ibrox.

It wasn’t the only incident involving the Brondby supporters in the Europa League group stage match, as shown in various video clips on Twitter.

After seeing Tavernier targetted by missiles, McCoist waxed lyrical about the right-backs response as he went onto deliver a cross into the box for Leon Balogun to score.

“It wasn’t ideal that situation,” said McCoist on BT Sport 3 after the game on Thursday night. “I wouldn’t imagine it’s the last we heard of that.

“There were one or two unsavoury incidents that happened during the first half.

“But he composed himself and put in a fantastic delivery, which we know he can do. He put it into the area for the centre-back to attack and it was a perfect corner kick.”

Disgusting behaviour

What on earth were the Brondby fans playing at on Thursday night?

We didn’t really expect them to be trouble-makers at Ibrox but that corner of Ibrox sure was feisty with clashes among fans and police during the game.

There has even been an allegation that a photographer was hurt by a coin that was thrown at him.

What if something had hit Tavernier and seriously injured him? There’s simply no need to be doing anything like that.

Scuffles aren’t uncommon among football fans but throwing objects at players who are providing you with entertainment is disgusting.

Tavernier’s response was brilliant though as his corner kick was headed in by Balogun to silence the away fans.

It was a good performance by Rangers on Thursday night and easily one of their best 90 minutes of the season so far.

However, Brondby at home was the easiest game in the week. We need to beat them away to stand any real chance of staying in the Europa League.
