Richard Foster blasts Rangers defender Borna Barisic v Brondby

Richard Foster has slammed Borna Barisic on BBC Sportsound during Rangers 2-0 win over Brondby in the Europa League clash on Thursday.

Rangers were leading by two goals at halftime, with important strikes coming from Leon Balogun and Kemar Roofe.

Just after the break, Rangers nearly allowed the Danish opposition to peg them back with Barisic making a horrible error.

The Croatian defender played a dreadful attempted pass to Alan McGregor which was intercepted by Mikael Uhre for a golden chance.

The Brondby forward found himself in a one-on-one situation with McGregor to beat but he fired wide.

Foster described the incident as “mind-boggling”, suggesting Rangers shouldn’t allow such slackness.

“That sums up Rangers’ season so far, second halves have killed them,” said Foster on BBC Sportsound.

“That’s mind-boggling from Barisic. That’s the slackness they can’t allow to seep in.”

Lifeline

After losing their opening two games, Rangers desperately needed this win to stay alive in the competition.

Foster is spot on here. Despite the fact that the Gers are top of the SPFL table at the moment, they are nowhere near their best at the moment.

They have made horrendous individual errors throughout the season and allowed the opposition to come back into the game on so many occasions.

Barisic can consider himself very lucky here. If Genk would have scored at that time, the result could have been different in the end.

Another taking point of this match is controversial decisions from the officials. While Roofe’s goal can be debated, it comes as a big surprise the referee didn’t give a penalty to Joe Aribo when he was clearly clipped by an outstretched foot.
