Charlie Nicholas discusses the closest title challengers to Rangers

Charlie Nicholas believes that Celtic will once again be the closest title challengers to Rangers this season.

Speaking in his Daily Express column [via the Daily Record], the former Sky Sports pundit thinks that the Bhoys will get their act together and challenge the Gers.

Currently, the likes of Hearts and Dundee United are the closest title challengers to Steven Gerrard’s men, but it seems as if Nicholas can see them fading away.

He said: “Celtic look a lot more promising, and they look like they will be Rangers’ main challengers again. They have won two away games at Aberdeen and Motherwell.

“I wouldn’t say they have built up real momentum, but it has been a start.”

Nicholas has confidence in Celtic.

The former Scottish international clearly sees the race at the top between the Old Firm, which is fair enough, but you can’t discount Hearts and Dundee United.

Both clubs have had a strong start to the season, and as it stands, they have to be seen as the Gers’ closest title rivals.

Celtic are four points off the top, so they are slowly closing the gap, but we really don’t think Hearts or Dundee Utd can be ruled out.

Both gave Gerrard’s men a really good game this season, and it has to be said that the SPFL looks a lot stronger this season.

Ultimately, this is a good thing for the Gers, and if the title race is closer and involves more than two teams, then we should see the best from the Bears as the season progresses.

It is fair enough to predict that Celtic will be the closest title rivals, but there are a couple of other sides that can’t be ruled out.
