Michael Stewart reacts to Rangers 1-1 draw vs Hearts

Rangers struggled in the final third against Hearts on Saturday, with the visitors leaving it late to leave Ibrox with a well-earned point.

Despite attempting 27 shots, John Lundstram’s first-half cracker was the only goal the Bears could score, but Craig Halkett’s 90th-minute equaliser cancelled it out.

Rangers have failed to win thrice this term, drawing twice and losing once, and that has seen Hearts, Dundee and Celtic close in on the gap between them in the table.

Dropping two points with practically the last kick of the game would have been a very bitter pill to swallow for Rangers, and reacting to the result on his personal Twitter account, Michael Stewart believes Steven Gerrard should be concerned.

He said: “Finally, the match of the weekend at Ibrox where the two top teams went head to head.

“Great result for Robbie Neilson and his men to continue their brilliant form.

“More dropped points at home for Rangers will be a concern for Gerrard perhaps.”

Spot on

Rangers still top the Premiership table, but with just a point separating them from Hearts and four between them and fourth-placed Celtic, their slim lead has not left them confident.

The Light Blues had everything in place to win the game, playing their best first-half of the campaign so far, but they struggled in front of goal, and that proved costly in the long run.

There are still 29 league games to play in the campaign, but Rangers need to lay down the marker as early as possible.

Rangers

With Hearts still unbeaten and Celtic appearing to be starting to find their feet, the Light Blues have to watch their back as a title race is definitely on the cards.

They cannot afford to keep dropping points in games they should be winning easily.

Gerrard should be worried if he is not already, and the players have to do more on the pitch going forward.

They have struggled with consistency so far, and that is simply not acceptable.
