Ange Postecoglou reacts to Rangers dropping points against Hearts
Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox on Saturday, with Craig Halkett’s 90th-minute equaliser cancelling out John Lundstram’s first-half stunner.
The result meant only a point separate the Premiership defending champions from second-placed Hearts, while Celtic are just four points behind their bitter rivals.
The Hoops secured a 2-0 win at Motherwell at the same time Rangers were dropping two points, and when Ange Postecoglou was asked if Rangers drawing was “icing on the cake” for his side, the Celtic manager replied: “Well, I thought the Premiership race was over, mate, so I’m not looking at the table any more.
“We are just kind of doing our own thing and it’s of zero significance for us.
‘I think what is more important to us is that we get some belief out of today. It’s one thing to get a victory here, but to control the game like we did today should give the boys some real belief.
“There are some big games starting on Tuesday so I think that’s the main thing for us.
“We will just keep doing our own thing and see where we end up.”
Heartbreaking
Rangers looked like they were back to their best with an impressive opening 45 minutes, but they squandered many chances and were made to pay for it in the end.
Kemar Roofe hit the bar while Alfredo Morelos could not find the back of the net despite having a couple of opportunities to do so.
The Bears were expected to deliver in the top of the table clash, but they just could not when it mattered most, and Celtic will fancy their title chances going forward.
Back-to-back victories have put them back in contention for the race, and Rangers cannot afford to be dropping points late in the game.
A title race is definitely on now after Steven Gerrard’s side struggled against Hearts, and while many still see them as favourites, the league leaders have to improve significantly to retain their prize.
