Chris Sutton: Rangers have been very average, Celtic must put pressure on
Chris Sutton has taken aim at Rangers this season, labelling their efforts as “pretty average” despite the Scottish Premiership table.
The Bears are currently sitting top of the pile with a six-point gap to Celtic and can beat yet another challenger in Hearts tomorrow.
Sutton believes that Steven Gerrard’s men will kick on sooner rather than later, and shared that it is vital that Ange Postecoglou does the same.

Writing in his Daily Record column, Sutton shared his verdict on the current state of the Scottish Premiership.
“It’s a tricky spell but there’s not much margin of error,” he said. “Rangers have been pretty average this season but you’ve got to expect them to pick up the pace.
“Celtic need to do the same.
“It’s vital they start climbing the table to put pressure on Rangers – but they also need to put on a performance against Ferencvaros on Tuesday.”

Average.
Sutton is actually right, we haven’t been at our best so far.
The big difference between the Old Firm clubs when not at their best, though, is that the Bears are still sat top and winning, whereas Celtic have already lost three times and are sitting in sixth place.
Gerrard will be laughing at columns such as this one, and this is more of a warning for the rest rather than motivation for the likes of our rivals.
How disheartening would it be to see your fierce enemy storming away at the top of the table despite being nowhere near their best?
After Hearts, we only have two more fixtures against lower-half sides before the first round of games are done – could the gap get even bigger?
