Rangers star Borna Barisic warned by Croatia's national team boss
Rangers star Borna Barisic has been told that one of the reasons he isn’t playing for Croatia is because other players feature for “stronger clubs”.
Zlatko Dalic [Daily Record], sent the 28-year-old a warning about his international future with Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa emerging as the first choice.
However, Dalic didn’t shut the door totally on Barisic and insisted that he was still in his plans.
He said: “Borna is here and in competition.
“The competition is very strong; there are players who play in the Bundesliga and stronger clubs.
“I would like the situation to open up for him, but competition is very strong, but Borna is also in the mix.”
Does Barisic have to move to gain more international recognition?
The 28-year-old has 22 caps for his country, but this seems to be a very subtle message that the left-back might have to move if he wants to make more international appearances.
He was linked with a move away from Ibrox in the last summer transfer window, and Dalic seems to hint that he needs to play in a better league [Sportske novosti].
However, in his time with the Gers, Barisic has become a huge player for Steven Gerrard’s side and has provided a whopping 34 assists in 121 games.
Now, that is an impressive record, and it certainly feels as if he has done more than enough to be playing regularly for his country.
You don’t get that number of assists in any league if you can’t deliver a cross, and he has proven that he can do that time and time again.
Therefore, this seems like a sly dig at the SPFL and the Bears, and we hope that Barisic pays no attention and stays with the Gers.
