Ally McCoist hits back as Rod Stewart claims Celtic will win the title

Ally McCoist has hit back at Rod Stewart after he claimed that Celtic will beat Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title this season.

The Bears are nowhere near top form in all competitions but still hold a six-point lead over their fierce rivals at this stage of the season.

McCoist laughed off Stewart’s claims, insisting that he had “lost the plot” when making the huge prediction.

Responding to those claims live on talkSPORT, McCoist simply laughed them off and backed the Bears to retain the title.

“I’ve got a lot of time for Rod,” he said. “But he has kind of lost the plot a wee bit there.

“I will tell you one thing in all seriousness. He does support his team, doesn’t he? He is really loyal.

“You very, very seldom hear him come on and give Scotland or Celtic stick. He is a proper supporter, although he has got that totally wrong. The Teddy Bears will be retaining the title.”

Seriously?

We can’t believe that Stewart seriously thinks his Celtic side will be the ones lifting the Scottish Premiership title at the end of the season.

Rangers at their worst are already six points ahead, so what is going to happen when they inevitably reach their best?

Steven Gerrard’s men already have to lose two games while Celtic win the rest of theirs in order for things to turn around, and we can’t see Ange Postecoglou not guiding his men to no defeats.

McCoist and the Bears are calm and not getting carried away, whereas the green half of Glasgow are trying their best to ramp up the pressure.

With automatic Champions League qualification on the line for the league winners, it is vital that the Bears do retain their title – it could help them keep most of this squad together.
