Ally McCoist stunned by Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson in Scotland win v Israel

Ally McCoist was exasperated by the failure of Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson to pick out Che Adams during Scotland’s 3-2 win over Israel on Saturday night.

Patterson, 19, played the duration of the Tartan Army’s crucial World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park, and after an uncertain first half where Scotland found themselves 2-1 down, he and his teammates emerged from the interval with a renewed sense of vigour as they turned the tide.

However, Gers hero McCoist was left ranting and raving in the Sky Sports commentary box as Southampton striker Adams was ignored by Patterson.

“He’s at the back post Adams there, honestly, he’s got a tap in,” McCoist said. “Patterson takes an extra touch.

“Wait until you see Adams, look at Adams’ position! It’s a tap in, give him it!”

Emotional Ally

McCoist wasn’t putting the boot in on Patterson but he merely could not contain his enthusiasm as he willed Scotland onto victory during commentary duties.

It was a thrilling game as Scotland’s secured a crucial three points in their bid to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Patterson burst into life during the second half as he rampaged down the right-wing.

Steve Clarke deployed him in a right wing-back role and it looks to be one perfectly suited to Patterson as his attacking talents were on display for all to see.

Perhaps it is something for Steven Gerrard to ponder back at Rangers as he plots how to fit him in the same team as Gers captain James Tavernier.
