Rangers handed Gerrard boost as Graham Potter emerges as favourite for Newcastle job

Rangers are now likely to retain the services of Steven Gerrard after Newcastle have reportedly made Brighton coach Graham Potter their primary target.

According to Spanish media outlet Fichajes, Newcastle are set to replace Steve Bruce post their takeover and have identified Potter as the favourite to do so.

This will ease the fears of many a Rangers fan as Gerrard was also in the running for the job.

One may see the arguments behind why a move to St. James’ Park could prove to be tempting for Gerrard as it will possibly get him a step closer to his dream job.

He wants the Liverpool job one day and currently, there’s no way he ousts Jurgen Klopp, who is seen as one of the best managers in their history.

A move to Newcastle would see him get a massive salary hike and a transfer budget that would be on par with Europe’s elite clubs.

With due respect to Scottish football, the Premier League is a different ball game in terms of its appeal and financial pull.

We know that one day he will leave Ibrox most probably for the English top flight, but Gers need him the most right now and it appears very likely that he will stay put at the club.

What happens in the future is anybody’s guess, but he is on course for an Ibrox stay and hopefully guiding his team to back-to-back league titles.
