Charlie Adam urges Steven Gerrard to consider Newcastle switch

Charlie Adam believes that Steven Gerrard could leave Rangers for Newcastle as it is a stepping stone for the Liverpool job.

The Gers boss enjoyed an illustrious playing career at the Merseyside club and since he’s moved to management has been linked with the hot seat at Anfield.

Given Newcastle’s recent takeover, the new owners are expected to replace Steve Bruce and Gerrard’s name has been thrown in the hat as well.

Speaking on the PLZ Football Show, Charlie Adam, a BBC pundit, said, “The investment is there for Steven Gerrard to go and be Newcastle manager.

“He could go and have £150million to spend. Do I think he’ll go? No, I think he will see out the job he has at Rangers.

“He’s got a good job there, and he knows what he is doing. Long-term though, is this (going to Newcastle) the stepping stone to get the Liverpool job? Maybe.

“If there is the right project available any manager will have to look at it.”

Hope he stays

It’s tough to say in this day and age what managers will do if they’re handed a lucrative job in the game.

Newcastle are a club with a rich fanbase and history and now have rich owners who will back their new manager unconditionally.

Gerrard would surely want to manage Liverpool one day but with Jurgen Klopp at the helm, he may have to bide his time elsewhere.

He could view the Newcastle job as his first step into Premier League management before taking the big job at Anfield.

However, he seems committed to his current Ibrox job and don’t think that he will depart in such an unceremonious manner.

Most probably, they will go for someone who’s got the experience of managing in the Premier League and who’s easily available.
