Rangers can keep Steven Gerrard from Newcastle United

Former Rangers defender Craig Moore believes that his old club can keep Steven Gerrard from Newcastle United.

The Toon’s long-awaited takeover finally went through earlier this week, and Gerrard is said to be “intrigued” by the prospect of taking over at St James’ Park [Daily Mail].

However, Moore believes that if they can keep their best players from moving to the Premier League, they can stop Gerrard from leaving.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: “I don’t know what Steven Gerrard’s career plan is, but what I do know is that Rangers have managed to hold onto their star talent player-wise.

“That suggests to me that they still believe there is still a lot that can be achieved with this team under the main man, which is the manager.

“So I don’t expect they will put themselves in a position where they keep their star players but lose their star manager.

“There is going to be many stories floating about what Newcastle may potentially look to do in regards to signings and managers.

“But Steven Gerrard is doing a wonderful job at Rangers, and I’m pretty sure he’s delighted with the way things are going.”

A clear message from Moore.

The truth is given the Toon’s newfound wealth, almost any manager in the world would be keen on making a move to Tyneside.

So it is no surprise that Gerrard is interested in the move because who wouldn’t be at the end of the day?

However, as it stands, Steve Bruce is still the manager, so, until that changes, it really is pointless speculating about Gerrard moving to Newcastle.

If the new owners like him and make a concrete move, we can start worrying about Gerrard leaving Ibrox.

If he does leave, then he has done an incredible job at Rangers, but if the Toon doesn’t make an approach, then we can’t see why he would leave to go to any other club just yet.

He is building a legacy at Ibrox, and it would be incredible to see him finish it in the next handful of seasons.
