Alan Brazil: Steven Gerrard could take Newcastle job after takeover
Alan Brazil has suggested that Newcastle United could make a move to appoint Rangers boss Steven Gerrard after their takeover.
Sky Sports have reported that the Saudi-led consortium are hopeful that a takeover deal can be announced as early as today.
Steve Bruce is expected to be shown the exit door alongside Mike Ashley, leaving a spot in the Premier League for Gerrard.
Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Brazil shared that it would all fit in perfectly for the future plans of the Bears boss.
“If Steven Gerrard comes down,” he said. “What is it 100 miles down to Newcastle?
“Waits for Jurgen to head off into green pastures and slips in because I think Amanda Staveley is a big Liverpool fan. It all fits in. It all fits in, of course, it does.”
Ally McCoist was on hand to respond to the suggestion and simply laughed in the face of his co-host on the matter.
“I am not sure it’s as simple as that,” he said.
Ally knows best.
Brazil is on hand to always poke at fans, and being Celtic-mad, who better to suggest than Gerrard to take over at Newcastle?
There is simply no chance of this one happening, with the Liverpool legend even insisting that the Anfield job would not interest him at this stage of his managerial career.
Gerrard is concentrating on the matter at hand, and that is taking the mighty Gers back to the Champions League.
Swapping that for a struggling Premier League side, who could crash at any moment in that toxic environment makes no sense.
Takeovers don’t instantly solve issues, and Newcastle have plenty of those, something Gerrard will be all too familiar with.
