Contract negotiations with Connor Goldson have stalled
Negotiations between Rangers and Connor Goldson over a new deal at the club have stalled, according to The Scottish Sun.
The 28-year-old has only a year left on his deal and the Ibrox giants want the centre-back to stay at the club.
However, the report suggests that a move to the Premier League could be tempting as he has been linked with a call up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
Goldson is the heart and soul of this Rangers defence and his importance to Steven Gerrard’s side cannot be overstated.
Without him, the side always look like they’re about to concede despite dominating possession.
Should he leave, it would be a devastating blow for the Gers as there aren’t replacements that are going to be as good who will be available on the cheap.
However, given the fact that he’s 28, he realises that this may be his last chance to get a move away from the club for a side in the Premier League.
Given the quality of centre-backs in the England side, one should not put a call-up beyond Goldson.
He is without a doubt, the best centre-back in Scotland and would certainly be a valuable addition for a top-eight Premier League outfit.
Alex Rae has labelled him “outstanding” earlier this year [Times] and he would be fuming as well should Goldson part ways with the club next summer.
