Colin Hendry comments on future of Rangers defender Connor Goldson
Former Rangers defender Colin Hendry has suggested that Connor Goldson has a “difficult” decision to make regarding his future.
The 28-year-old joined the Gers in 2018 from Brighton and Hove Albion and has been one of the key players for Steven Gerrard’s side.
He scored eight goals in 56 appearances in all competitions last season, and Hendry has suggested that he has the qualities to represent the England national team as well.
The defender has less than 12 months left on his present deal at Ibrox and he is yet to put to paper on a new deal.
Hendry, who earned 51 caps for Scotland, feels that Goldson needs to decide whether he wants to continue at a nostalgic club like Rangers or move back to the Premier League.
“Does he go, or does he stay at a nostalgic club like Glasgow Rangers?,” said Hendry to Bonus Finder.
“It’ll be a difficult one for him, but with a year left on his contract it’ll be a decision he’ll have to make.
“He’s in the last year of his contract but at the age of 28 would he want to move back to the Premier League and in England?
Goldson has been brilliant since he moved to Ibrox. He was not getting the due recognition of his talents at Brighton, and the move did help him reignite his career.
Rangers are heading in the right direction under Steven Gerrard, and Goldson has already got the taste of winning silverware.
A good Premier League side can offer him a tempting wage package but he should only consider an offer from a top club that can offer him European football.
At Rangers, he is getting the exposure of playing in Europe, something he should definitely consider while deciding on his next move.
