Pieter Huistra: Bacuna can emulate McCall & Ferguson
Rangers summer signing Juninho Bacuna has been urged to follow in the footsteps of Stuart McCall and Ian Ferguson.
In an interview with The Scottish Sun, Pieter Huistra, former Gers attacker, has claimed that Bacuna was tipped for greatness from a very early age in the Netherlands.
Huistra was the Under-19s manager at Groningen then and had Bacuna’s brother Leandro in his team.
Speaking about Juninho, he said, “Juninho was eight or nine at the time but he’d already caught the attention of many of the Groningen coaches. People talked about his potential even then.
“I saw some glimpses and what caught my attention at the age of six or seven was the way he was so comfortable with the ball.
“In my time there we had players like Stuart McCall, Ian Ferguson and Trevor Steven. You had to be able to play but you also had to graft. Juninho has that — at least that’s what he showed when he was a player in Holland.”
The way he’s being talked about, we’re excited to see what he can bring to the table for this Gers side.
They have not lacked quality midfielders in recent years, but having a player of Bacuna’s calibre is needed to push the first-choice options to the next level.
Bacuna is still bedding himself into the Gers side after joining from Huddersfield in this summer transfer window.
Hopefully, Bacuna comes good as he would be able to play a key role for Steven Gerrard in the coming years.
Gerrard’s known to bring the best out of players with huge potential and Bacuna is undoubtedly one tipped for the top.
