Maurice Ross issues his verdict on Rangers and Celtic

Maurice Ross believes once Rangers return to their top form from last season, Celtic won’t be able to hang on.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the former Gers defender talked in detail about the Bears and the Bhoys and the title race.

He says that his old club will have too much for their city rivals once they get going because they are already six points clear of Celtic, and they haven’t even been playing that well.

He said: “Looking at the situation seven games in, the thing I’d be worrying about if I was in Celtic’s position is that Rangers have not got going yet – and they’re still six points clear.

“What’s going to happen when Rangers do hit form?

“Rangers have still got the majority of the same personnel that won the title last year, so there’s no reason why they can’t rediscover their form.”

Ross makes a good point.

Celtic actually started the season pretty well with a couple of big wins at home.

However, since they lost the Old Firm at Ibrox, they have only won one league game and have slipped to sixth in the table.

The likes of Hibernian and Hearts have emerged as better contenders for the title so far, so you can see why Ross is confident that the Bears can blow the rest of the league away again.

Sunday is a big game before the international break as Steven Gerrard’s men can move four points clear of their nearest rivals, which would be a big statement to make early in the season.

You would expect Celtic to get a bit better, but we do agree with Ross that once the Gers get going again, their rivals won’t be able to live with them, and we should see second consecutive SPFL titles heading to Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, the club have been sent a warning by a prominent businessman as he looks to buy an SPFL club.
