Barry Ferguson: Gerrard will be very happy with Glen Kamara extension
Barry Ferguson believes that tying Glen Kamara down a new deal at Rangers is good for the club and insists he can take his game to the next level.
The Finland international appeared to be on the cusp of an exit this summer but has now extended his deal to stay at Ibrox.
On Wednesday, they finally made it official, via the club website that his deal will now run until the summer of 2025.
Discussing this in his Daily Record column, Ferguson said, “I know he’ll [Gerrard] have been delighted to get Kamara tied down on a new contract running to 2025.
“Oh my, what else can you say about that lad? To get him for just 50 grand was the deal of the century. It sounds like he’ll be getting a decent wee pay rise and he certainly deserves it with the way he’s played.
“I can’t speak any more highly of him. He’s such a cool, calm and collected individual.”
Kamara is the heart and soul of this Gers midfield and it would be a disaster had he parted ways with the club.
After such an impressive season, the expectations were to take the club forward and Gerrard did the right thing by keeping hold of his key names.
Getting Kamara to extend is just as important as keeping hold of the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent and now there should be no uncertainty about his future.
It will also help him play freely without having the constant question of his future always thrown at him.
Hopefully, his performances keep improving and he helps take the club to the next level and also showcases why he is rated so highly by the Rangers hierarchy.
