Mark Hateley gushes over Nathan Patterson in Rangers win v Livingston
Mark Hateley enjoyed Nathan Patterson’s performance for Rangers in their Scottish League Cup win over Livingston on Wednesday night.
Steven Gerrard’s men booked their spots at Hampden Park with a 2-0 victory over Livi at Ibrox with Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos netting in the second half.
Patterson, 19, played for just the third time this season in the win and ex-Ger Hateley was thoroughly impressed by the young right-back’s performance.
“Steven Gerrard will be delighted with the way Rangers are going about their business, keeping Livi pinned back,” said Hateley on BBC’s Sportsound on Wednesday night, as quoted on BBC Sport’s website.
“Patterson has had a tremendous start, very aggressive with his running and looking to get in on goal.”
Patterson deserves way more game-time than he gets.
Last season saw Patterson make his mark in Gerrard’s senior side but it only really came while James Tavernier was injured.
But based on everything we’ve seen from the young Scotland international so far, he’s way too good to only play when Tav is injured or unavailable.
Patterson is Scotland’s best right-back and the best young full-back in the Scottish Premiership.
He was linked with a move to Everton in the summer transfer window, which suggests just how much potential this young man is showing.
Patterson still has some way to go in terms of his development but he’ll only do that at Ibrox if he’s playing regularly.
Tavernier is our club captain and we respect that and understand why Gerrard opts for him more often than not. But Tavernier’s form has also been fairly poor for his standards and we want to see Patterson get more chances in the league and in Europe.
In other Rangers news, fans have hit out at a pundit after his £10million transfer prediction on this Bear.
