Brandon Barker spotted in training ahead of Rangers v Livingston
Brandon Barker looks as though he’s in contention to play for Rangers tonight (Wednesday) when they play Livingston at Ibrox in the Scottish League Cup quarter final.
Barker, 24, is yet to make an appearance in any of Steven Gerrard’s matchday squads this season and hasn’t featured for the Gers’ senior side since January when he played as a sub in a Premiership draw at Motherwell.
Based on a video clip on the Gers’ official Twitter account, Barker seems as though he hasn’t been frozen out completely by Gerrard as he’s training at Auchenhowie.
It suggests that the former Manchester City attacker could at least be in the thinking of Gerrard for the clash versus Livi tonight.
Give him a shot?
Rangers’ start to the season has been pretty dreadful when compared to our expectations.
We’ve been knocked out of the Champions League, barely qualified for the Europa League group stages, were outclassed by Lyon and already suffered one defeat in the Premiership at the hands of Dundee United.
Of course, there have been good things too but based on our expectations, we’re not doing as well as we should.
Most of our first-team players are underperforming so maybe there’s an opportunity for Barker to show everyone what he can do versus Livingston on Wednesday night.
He has nothing to lose and a lot to prove so it could be worth a shot.
The versatile winger, who spend the second half of last season on loan at Oxford United in England’s League One, could give Gerrard an option to rest some of his first-team stars too.
