Gerrard wants Rangers duo Kent and Morelos back on form

Steven Gerrard suggests he needs Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos to return to “top form” as soon as possible for Rangers.

The Gers dropped points at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership for the first time in 18 months as they drew 1-1 against Motherwell on Sunday.

While the Rangers boss has bemoaned the flaky defence, he feels the pressing issue lies in converting chances upfront, challenging his forwards to rediscover the form that earned them the Premiership title last season.

Gerrard has suggested that Morelos needs to get back to top form, while he has also made it clear that the club wants Kent back and firing at the earliest.

Kent picked up a knock against Lyon during the Europa League clash, and Gerrard has confirmed that he could be out for a period of time.

“Obviously we need Ryan Kent back as soon as possible and back in top form,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Scottish Sun

“And we need to get Morelos in top form.

“Because if you look at the first eight or nine games, we haven’t got a leading goalscorer that’s jumping out or a leading assister who is jumping out.

“That’s what we are going to need, moving forward.”

Worrying form

Rangers have made a stuttering start to the season. Although they sit on top of the table and have a four-point lead over Celtic, it seems they’re lacking the cutting edge of last season.

The Gers have dropped points against Dundee United and Motherwell already, and Gerrard has every reason to be concerned about the lacklustre effort from his forwards.

It’s been a recurrent theme with the Gers this season, with the likes of Kemar Roofe, Scott Wright, Kent, Morelos and Fashion Sakala managing only 10 goals among them in all competitions.

Morelos has been the club’s top scorer in the past few years, but he hasn’t been at his best so far, managing only three goals.

Gerrard knows that the situation cannot be allowed to continue and he is pinning his hopes on his star players to deliver in the coming matches.

In other Rangers news, a former player claims he heard racist abuse at Ibrox in the draw with Motherwell on Sunday.
