Conor Goldson & Filip Helander major Rangers doubts v Lyon
Rangers duo Conor Goldson and Filip Helander are “major doubts” for the Europa League clash with Lyon on Thursday.
That’s according to the Daily Record, with a potential defensive injury crisis looming for Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.
Goldson missed the win over St Johnstone after being forced to isolate, with Helander being stretchered off in the same clash.
There is a big wait on these two ahead of Thursday, with no real update on either of the defensive pair.
Gerrard admitted that Helander’s injury didn’t look good after the win at McDiarmid Park, and that is an early suggestion he won’t be involved for quite some time, never mind just Thursday.
As for Goldson, this one came out of nowhere and it all depends on when he started isolating behind the scenes.
Time will tell, but this isn’t good news ahead of our toughest clash of the group first up in Glasgow.
So, many would just say to bring in Jack Simpson but he hasn’t been included in the Bears squad for Europe.
Although at the time it didn’t appear to be a major mistake, that has come back to haunt the club as they prepare for a huge game.
Balogun is now left with no partner should both Goldson and Helander fail to make this one, and a big reshuffle looks set.
Gerrard will be racking his head and his staff to search for the right answers, and we hope he finds them in the next three days and quickly.
