Graeme Murty waxes lyrical of Tavernier goal for Rangers

James Tavernier scored a wonderful goal in the second half to see Rangers pick up three points against St. Johnstone.

His strike impressed former Gers player Graeme Murty who took to Twitter to wax lyrical over the moment at McDiarmid Park.

He wrote, “James Tavernier, what have you just done? That’s an absolute madness.”

What a strike

Tavernier’s goal is certainly going to end up in the highlight reels at the end of the season.

It was a fine hit, no doubt, but it also got the Gers three very important points which could prove to be vital towards the end of the season.

He occupied a position of a central midfielder almost and few thought that he would crack it in from that range.

Many on the field probably thought that he would whip the ball in and hope for one of the Rangers attackers to get on the end of it and then have a shot at goal.

Zander Clark, in the St. Johnstone goal, was also slightly off his line, probably expecting a cross at his far post.

All in all, it was a well-executed strike and one that Tavernier’s going to remember for a long time as he adds another to his highlight reel.

That win temporarily puts the Gers in pole position on the table and it’s now onto Steven Gerrard and the boys to keep the side there.

They’ve kept a hold of their key players and have roped in some quality names so there’s undoubtedly a chance that they retain the title comfortably this season.
