Everton table £5million bid for Rangers defender Nathan Patterson
Rangers have reportedly received a £5million bid from Everton for 19-year-old right-back Nathan Patterson.
According to The Daily Mirror, Rangers will now have to decide on the future of the defender as captain James Tavernier is still the first choice for Steven Gerrard.
It is also understood that Everton believe they can secure the Scotland international’s services and will push hard to sign him this summer.
Surely rejecting it?
Patterson is widely regarded as the future for Rangers and if playing time is a concern then he’s unlikely to get that at billionaire-owned Everton [Forbes] either.
Coleman may be on the wrong side of 30, but he’s still capable enough to put in a shift and could be Rafa Benitez’s first choice for two more seasons.
Much like Coleman, Tavernier too will be ready to hand over the first-team baton by then, and Patterson may prefer staying in Scotland as it would help boost his chances of being a regular starter for the national team.
Gerrard also admires him a great deal, speaking about his high potential recently [Glasgow Live], so convincing him to let go of one of his best young players may be a tough task.
Also, if he wants to leave because the Premier League is a tempting prospect for players, we cannot afford to lose him for only £5million.
He’s someone good enough to fight for a first-team berth at a number of Premier League clubs, and if we are to sell him to Everton, we should surely demand more.
It’s the richest league in the world through its broadcasting revenue and sponsorship deals, and with Everton not spending big on anyone this summer, they’ve surely got money left in the bank to pay for Patterson.
